Preseason Prep: Import Your Parent Contacts into Takedown
Preseason prep
Most coaches collect parent contact information before the season starts, at a parent meeting, on a sign-up sheet or through an online form. Takedown can import that list in one step, so nobody has to type it in.
What the import does
Takedown reads a spreadsheet with one row per parent or guardian, matches each row to a wrestler on your roster, adds the parent to your Contacts with the Parent/Guardian role, and links them to their wrestler. From then on they’re included whenever you email the Parent/Guardian group.
What you need
- Your roster in Takedown first. Parents are matched to wrestlers by name. Load the roster with Get Roster from our database, or import it from a spreadsheet; see Rosters in the help center.
- A spreadsheet saved as a CSV file with the wrestler’s name and the parent’s name, email and phone. A wrestler with two parents gets two rows.
If you’re collecting the information on a sign-up sheet or form this season, ask for those same fields and the list is ready to import.
How it works
Get the file onto the iPad, open it, and share it to Takedown. Takedown lists the parents it found, each with their wrestler; tap Import. Run it again after the next meeting: a parent already in Contacts with the same name and email is updated, not duplicated.
The exact column headings, an example file and what happens to each row are in the help center: Importing Parent and Guardian Contacts from a File.
